SidePlate™ is fully developed for both new and retrofit construction. Its unique trademark geometry, simple design configurations, increased connection stiffness, and proven construction methods that collectively characterize the attributes of the SidePlate connection technology are ideally suited to satisfy a wide variation and technically diverse set of design environments and construction applications as follows:

Design Environments:

  • Explosive threat and mitigation of progressive floor collapse from structurally violent "missing column" and "missing beam" scenarios, either accidental or malevolent in origin
  • Earthquakes of all magnitudes, including effects of near-field ground motion
  • Extreme wind; including typhoon, hurricane and tornado

Design Configurations:

  • SMRF, IMRF and OMRF moment frames for uniaxial frames
  • Braced Dual Systems using SCBF with SMRF for uniaxial frames
  • Braced Dual Systems using EBF with SMRF for uniaxial frames

    • Strategically sensitive facilities of the federal government requiring mitigation of progressive floor collapse and other global bomb blast effects originating from terrorist or accidental bomb blasts in order to save lives, prevent injury and protect facilities. Public Owners of such buildings include GSA, FAA, Department of Defense, State Department, U.S. Navy and others. Applicable structures also include pre-engineered steel frame structures used to temporarily house personnel and/or warehouse government inventory.
    • Another growing need for SidePlate™ connection technology is with high-profile private business owners needing to protect valuable inventories and/or continue critical business operations.

    • Large Concrete Tilt-Up Buildings, for use in tall one-story interior moment frames in large footprint warehouses, to eliminate interior braces that would otherwise limit the Owner's functional use of the building
