SidePlate Frequently Asked Questions
SidePlate™ connections are completely shop-fabricated with fillet welds in the flat or horizontal positions and shipped to the construction site as 1, 2 or 3-story column trees.
At the site, a link beam connects two column trees together, typically using a butt joint groove weld, which eliminates removal of backing bar, including back gouging and reinforcing fillet weld that are mandatory for all other welded moment connection types. As an option, in areas where smaller beams are used due to lower seismicity or wind loads, a field bolted beam splice may be used. |
